Avalon (Single)
Ragged Oak
Avalon is a track written during the deepest depression I have ever navigated. It is a radical attempt to hold hope in one hand, while unable to let go of the hurt, confusion, disdain, pain, fear, anxiety, and awareness of systems that oppress the poor and downtrodden in another. Since this song's conception, I have climbed out of this darkness. Not from casual existence, but from hard work and the support of others--therapy (it works!), intentional focus on health, honesty, intentional relationships, the immeasurable love and support of my wife, and a lot of making authentic art. Now, when I listen to this track, I hear more hope than I do fear. It is not in the words, but in the music. While the reality may be painful, and the struggles very real, the hope lies in the unspoken, beneath the surface. I am incredibly proud of this song, and I hope that in some way, in whatever strangeness holds your existence, that you can feel a confidence that your hands can cause more good than the bad that you have witnessed.
